Good morning everyone!
What a whirlwind these last few days have been! Our presentation was a total surprise and gift. Cecelia. our in-country coordinator, picked us up around 2pm on Thursday afternoon. We arrived at los Pisingos to meet Carlos the newest director of the orphanage. He is the son of one of the founding women. Presentations are done very different now since the passing of Rosa (another woman that started the los Pisingos foundation). First we met Carlos, the director and Andres, who facilitates the presentations. Andres is a LP adoptee himself! It was so heartwarming to meet them both and see how they interact with the children, talking with them, giving them their full attention.
They are very careful about germs so we had to suit up in scrubs before Andres brought us up to the 3rd floor where all the babies are. And there he was! Our sweet sweet boy! Poor little baby has a terrible virus. I guess most of the babies were struggling with it. We were in a little room off to the side all 4 of us! It felt so good to have him in our arms! After a short while we went back downstairs to talk more with Carlos and meet Mateo's caregiver. We were able to ask her questions about his schedule likes etc. What a gift to be able to get more information about him! We also brought some small gifts for Carlos, Andres and Adriana, Mateo's nurse.
The next 48 hrs were a tornado filled with vomit, diareha, very little sleep and lots of Colombian coffee! But last night he seemed to be feeling better and slept most of the night. Thank you Jesus! Picture the movie "Terms of Endearment" and me practically crawling in the crib, pinching him to make sure he was alright!
Lucy has been sooooo sweet with him. She likes to hold him and help feed him. Needless to say we've been in hunker down mode at Hotel Paris. But the staff are great, very attentive. Once Mateo feels better we'll be venturing out for a walk soon.
Just an FYI, I won't be posting anything on facebook while we're here. There is just too much to keep track of these days:) Plus this site is for Mateo so that he can have this as a record of our beginnings as a family. So don't forget to leave a note for us in the comments section! Hint! Hint! You don't have to have an account. Just click on comments and sign in as anonymus.
So...Please pray that he continues to get better and kick this virus, that he thrives, grows and gains weight under the care of his new family.
We are blessed!

So wonderful your family of four is now together! Sorry to hear it was started with a bug but glad it seems to be passing. What a great visual climbing into the crib to ensure breathing . . .wont be the last I'm sure!
Enjoy your time in your second home country! I hope that walk can happen today.

YAY! Welcome, Mateo! What wonderful pictures! It sucks that he is sick, but I am sure that being with Mom and Dad will fix him up in no time! (Let's just hope the rest of you don't get it!) Enjoy yourselves...can't wait to read the next installment!

PS...We love the way Lucy's hair is flying straight out to the side in that pic of all 4 of you!
I will definitely say prayers for him to get better! I can totally see you practically crawling in his crib - I would be the same way.
Eric and I were just talking today about how comforting it must be to Mateo to have a mommy and daddy hold him while he isn't feeling well. We know he's been in excellent care, but still ... mom and dad. So glad you posted today! We are TOTALLY envisioning your days there. Last night when I checked in, Eric said, "You know, I'm a little jealous ... those were some of the best days of my life!" Enjoy these best days of YOUR life! The Lees
The Kern family is growing and all in God's timing. What a wonderful pic of the family and see everyone's smiling faces! Lucy, you now have the task of being big sister! How awesome is that?

By the way the pictures of Lucy with her brother are beautiful....
You all look so great together as a family. Sad to see Mateo is sick, but with his new family and all of your attention to him, he will be better soon. I hope your walks will start soon. The parks in Bogota are so awesome. I really miss the views of the mountains. Maybe you will be able to get out on Sunday, when the streets are closed to traffic.
It is nice to hear that Lucy is so helpful with her brother.
Our prayers are with all of you.
Joyce, Eric, Jeferson and Diego.
so so happy for you all!!
We can't wait to meet him next week! if you happen to have time to email - let me know if we should bring anything specific for Los Pisingos (i.e. clothes, etc.).
